The Moose, again

Okay, for anyone who has lived amongst moose...forgive me. We are having a great time watching this lil guy right now and I imagine I'll be blogging about him often. I know that for the people here, seeing a moose is about has exciting as deer in Colorado ;) You see, we are from Colorado, have seen many deer, elk, even some bear, but in all of our trekking, I have never seen a moose. Had to move all the way to northern Canada to see one...no, to see many. And it thrills me!

Here at the Cozy House in the Aspens, this guy visits daily... He's young, probably 1-2 years old, and has been up to this point, peaceful, munching branches, burrowing his snout in the snow, encouraging laughter from us girls.

A couple of days ago the girls were working on a very tough art lesson (doesn't that sound crazy?). And encourage them as I might, telling them this was an opportunity to "just try", they were taking turns crying in frustration over their desire for perfection. Anyway, just about as I was to loose my encouraging tone, I looked up. There he was, I could see him out in the yard through the window. What a stress buster..."Look girls, go watch the moose." Smiles, giggles, chatter. Then back to the lesson with a little less stress. Peaceful.

Yesterday, from my kitchen window, I watched him climb the hill again, but we were busy and had much to get done, so I didn't pay any more attention. Our neighbor pulled up out front which puzzled me, and I started to watch the windows, realizng that Shiloh was barking even more than usual.

Mr. Moose was really too close to the house and Shiloh, the big fierce (NOT) protector of the home, was going crazy. It was humorous in a very respectful way...little bitty herding dog, rather big wild moose.

This day, the moose was quite aggitated and began charging our quick and nimble lil herding dog. When we tried to stand on the deck and get a few pictures I quickly realized the brave heart of Shiloh was in more danger of being trampled as she became much more aggressive towards the moose while we were out there. So we stayed inside and watched from the windows.

Rubbing his antlers on the tree and stomping his feet.

Eventually we were able to get Shiloh in the house and the moose rambled on. The dog is getting much more adventure than those escapes around the neighborhood in the city!

This is too bad for my girls though, they won't be playing off the deck anymore unless Shiloh and I check things out first! They have had the opportunity to see what we've told them about how dangerous these big animals can be ~ and none of us are as quick and nimble as our little herding dog.
